![]() The Mega Drive version of Worms is relatively bare-bones in that there’s none of the single-player content from the home computers’ later Reinforcements expansion pack, and the amount of customisation you can apply to the game is fairly limited. But for now while there are more readily accessible (and licensable) console versions of games out there, those are the versions we’re more likely to see on Evercade. ![]() These aren’t insurmountable obstacles and I don’t doubt we will one day see things like MS-DOS, C64, ZX Spectrum and Amiga games on the Evercade. There are numerous potential complications when emulating a computer rather than a console - most notably some systems’ requirement for BIOS ROMs, which are often copyrighted, as well as the fact controls tend to be built for keyboard rather than controller. The reason for this is that we don’t yet have any MS-DOS (or indeed home computer in general) emulation on any Evercade cartridges. Worms is where it all began - though the version of Worms we get on the Evercade cartridge is the Mega Drive console version rather than the original original PC version. Taking control of each member of a team of heavily armed worms a turn at a time, you can move around the randomly generated landscape, fire or throw weapons at your opponents and do your best to have the last worm standing. Classic titles for this collection include Sensible Soccer, Cannon Fodder, Mega-Lo-Mania, Cosmic Spacehead, and an unreleased game, Tennis All-Stars. As we already stated, this collection is currently slated for a mid-2021 launch, so hopefully, we’ll hear more about a potential release date as we progress through the year. The Worms series, for the unfamiliar, is a long-running range of games that are primarily turn-based strategy titles based loosely on the classic “artillery” titles for home computers. Believe it or not, the company has been making video games since 1986, and now some of those titles will be brought back for the Evercade. Lastly, releasing later in the middle of 2021 is the Codemasters Collection 1. You might recognize the name as it’s the exact same studio that created the popular Dirt franchise and released Dirt 5 just a couple of months ago. ![]() Releasing alongside Worms in May 2021 is also the Indies Heroes Collection that houses special adventure 8-bit titles like Flea, Quest Arrest – Exclusive Color Version, and Twin Dragon. The Piko Interactive 2 will include a wide array of sports titles such as Summer Challenge, Beast Ball, Top Racer 2, and Soccer Kid. Both of these sets will launch April 2021. This includes the Jaleco Collection 1, which is comprised of 10 games like Astyanax, Brawl Brothers, City Connection, and Earth Defense Force. This collection will launch later this year in May 2021, with an exact date to be announced later.Īs we already mentioned, there are other cartridges set to launch this year. Thankfully, that title is among the select few that were picked for the Worms Collection 1 cartridge, with the other two titles being Worms and Worms Blast respectfully. Worms has been a long time stalwart of the video game community, with Worms Armageddon often being considered the best in the series. The company announced the port last year during the 25 Anniversary of the franchise.
